Fanfiction Friday!

Hey guys!  Happy last day of September!

This week’s Fanfiction Friday pick was written by yours truly!  I debated using my own fanfic as my pick of the week for days, but then figured, why not!  There’s no better person to talk about my Wattpad fanfiction than myself 🙂  And what better place to promote it than my own blog?  So here goes!

my-wattpad-supnat-fanfic-coverThis week’s fanfiction is brought to you by my love for all things Supernatural and an ode to the fact that I have finally started watching season 11!

This week’s fanfiction: A Supernatural Grimm Tale by OffonaTangerine follows main character Jack Grimm, to small-town Wyoming where she is currently investigating a case she believes to be the work of a vengeful spirit.

While working the case, Jack bumps in to none other than Sam and Dean Winchester, who she recognizes right away as fellow hunters.  Jack decides that she wants to solve the case first and after several attempts at sabotaging the Winchester’s investigation, she reluctantly agrees to help them.

My fanfiction is currently a work in progress, and I update chapters as often as I can.  Typically on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  The story itself is drawing to a close and I have a sequel in the works.

Let me know what you think!

Fanfiction Friday….on Sunday

Sorry for the delay in last week’s Fanfiction Friday!  I know I promised it would be up by Friday, but nevertheless, here it is today!

strategy 2This week’s (or rather last week’s) Fanfic Friday is called Strategy (Oliver Wood) by kmbell92.  After reading the latest Harry Potter story, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, I’ve naturally been in a Harry Potter mood and so looked for some new HP fanfics to read.  As a big fan of Oliver Wood (and really, who doesn’t love our favourite Quidditch-obsessed Irishman?) I was immediately excited when I stumbled upon Strategy.

Strategy follows the friendly rivalry between two Hogwarts Quidditch players—Oliver Wood; Keeper for Gryffindor, and Melanie Anderson; Chaser for Ravenclaw.  I think my favourite thing about this story is how easily Melanie manages to get under Oliver’s skin, and she does so just to mess with him, not because she is particularly competitive, but just because she can.  The angrier and more frustrated Oliver gets, the more pronounced his accent becomes, and naturally, the more amused Melanie finds it.

oliver woodWhen it comes to this fanfic, I really enjoy who the author picked as her face claim for Melanie Anderson.  I think Zoe Kravitz (who I’m not particularly a fan of) is perfect for the fun-loving and easy-going Melanie.

Looking for a new Harry Potter fanfiction?  I definitely recommend Strategy!  Check it out dear reader and let me know what you think!

September Book of the Month

September’s Book of the Month is: Ghostly Echoes: A Jackaby Novel by William Ritter

Ghostly Echoes by William Ritter

Ghostly Echoes by William Ritter

Ghostly Echoes is the third book in the Jackaby series, and I for one am very excited to begin reading the latest installment!  I can’t even recall how I stumbled upon the first novel in the Jackaby series.  Most likely I was browsing Chapters and saw it on the new books display, or perhaps it was on one of my many perusals of my library’s On Order list.  In any case, Jackaby is a series I am very glad to have found.

Book three continues seemingly where Beastly Bones left off, with our heroine, the intrepid Miss Abigail Rook investigating the decades old murder of her ghostly friend and flatmate, Jenny Cavanaugh.  With the help of her eccentric employer, the aforementioned Jackaby, Abigail begins looking into Miss Cavanaugh’s cold case.  Shortly after beginning her investigation however, a new murder occurs on the streets of 19th Century New England that closely resembles Miss Cavanaugh’s murder ten years prior, and Abigail realises she may be facing her deadliest enemy yet.

I admit that what drew me initially to this series is our titular character’s resemblance to Sherlock Holmes.  As a life long Sherlockian, I was pleased to find a similar character in a new series.  R.F. Jackaby is equal parts detective, mad scientist, paranormal investigator, and all around peculiar man, and I absolutely love him!

And of course there is our brave and independent heroine, Miss Abigail Rook.  A strong, female character that I liked immediately.  The daughter of a famed archaeologist, Abigail struck out for New England on her own, searching for adventure, and I admire her tenacity immensely!  We could all do to be a bit more like Miss Rook.

Are you going to be reading Ghostly Echoes this month?  Let me know what you think dear reader!
